Info:

In the brain, boron is the most abundant trace element.

This fact has not been given any importance so far. As a misunderstood protective spirit, boron resides in the human body in modest doses - namely at 0.2 ppm. Our whole body distributes and stores boron. The highest concentration is found in the parathyroid glands, followed by bone and tooth enamel. Boron is indispensable for healthy bones and joints. Through its action on the parathyroid glands, it regulates the absorption and metabolism of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. This means that boron is just as important for the parathyroid glands as iodine is for the thyroid gland. Certain boron compounds are presumably important for the formation of hormones and for the metabolism in the brain. In addition, boron ions play an important role in protecting cells against the penetration of unwanted ions.

Research showed that daily doses of three milligrams of boron compensate for calcium loss by 40% within one week.

Boron reduces the excretion of calcium and thus increases the calcium level in the blood. In the case of magnesium deficiency, boron replaces its function, and at the same time increases the concentration of boron in bone tissue. In the stomach, borax reacts with hydrochloric acid to form boric acid and sodium chloride. Boron compounds are rapidly and almost completely excreted in the urine. Borax contains 11.3 percent boron, while boric acid contains 17.5 percent.

The use of borax for arthritic complaints

The use of borax in people suffering from osteoarthritis has produced numerous successes, particularly in connection with Rex Newnham's study in the 1980s. As part of his research, a group of patients under the age of 75 who had suffered from osteoarthritis for less than ten years were given boron-containing drugs for a total of eight weeks at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The daily dose of sodium tetraborate decahydrate was 55mg. At the end of the studies, 70% of the patients showed an improvement in their symptoms - compared to 12% of the placebo group. The effect of the boron-containing drug on bones and joints is explained by hyperactivity of the parathyroid gland, which reacts to boron deficiency with increased secretion of hormones. These hormones, in turn, release calcium from the bones and joints. As a result, blood calcium levels rise, increasing the risk of soft tissue calcification. In addition, arthritic complaints and joint stiffness occur preferentially.

Boron for the detoxification of heavy metals?

Last but not least, according to a Chinese study, borax could also be used in removing fluorine from the body. Fluoride in high concentrations causes bone damage. In the study, 31 subjects suffering from skeletal fluorosis were given increasing doses of between 300 and 1100mg of borax over a period of three months, with a 50-80% improvement in symptoms at the end of treatment.
