Infos
Artemisia Annua "A gift of nature to us humans". The Artemisia annua is no longer an insider tip! It belongs to the genus Artemisia from the daisy family and is a valuable natural product that brings many benefits. Whether Artemisia annua tea, tinctures or capsules, this herb can help in any form. The natural ingredients protect our health and the active ingredient artemisinin has already been awarded the Nobel Prize.
In the valuable Artemisia extracts, the antibacterial active ingredients of the small miracle drug can be used in the best possible way.
Artemisia annua - in service for 2000 years
Artemisia annua - better known in Germany as annual mugwort - has had a firm place in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years. The Chinese use it preventively to strengthen the immune system, but also against fever, for infections, inflammations, food intolerances and digestive problems, as well as to expel worms. Native to the sunny and rainy regions of Eurasia, the herbaceous plant with the striking aromatic fragrance also grows in our latitudes. As a wild plant, it is mainly distributed along the Elbe River, but also feels at home in the home garden.
Awarded Nobel Prize
International recognition for Artemisia annua - and thus growing interest in this versatile medicinal plant - has been accompanied by the discovery of its - so far most important - active ingredient, artemisinin. For its research and isolation as an effective antimalarial drug, Chinese pharmacologist Tu Youyou won a Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2015. The herb is widely used in Africa, among other places, where there are numerous projects that provide people with natural and affordable herbal remedies. The herb also celebrates success in resistance to known antimalarial drugs.
The active ingredients in Artemisia annua
Artemisia annua is said to harbor a treasure trove of over 600 biologically active ingredients. The main player is artemisinin, a secondary plant substance from the terpene group. It is found mainly in the leaves, but also in the flowers of the plant. Annual mugwort also contains numerous essential oils, such as alpha and beta-pinene, camphor, limonene, eucalyptus oil or menthol, flavonoids, and essential fatty acids.
